The Employee Free Choice Act is Coming...Be Ready!
If the Employee Free Choice Act passes in the Senate this year—and most experts predict that it will—union organizers will be able to come in to your business and organize your employees without a secret ballot election. That means all they have to do is get more than 50% of your employees to sign cards, and you could have a union before management even knows what’s happening.
And that’s not the only bad news. The EFCA will also require companies to negotiate contract terms with a new union within 120 days, or else the matter will go to binding arbitration. That means an outside party with no knowledge of your business could be making decisions about contract terms like compensation, benefits, work rules and more.
If you wait until this legislation is enacted, it will be too late. Smart companies are training and preparing their teams now.
Tango Training offers a one-day program for small to medium-sized businesses, including a half day workshop for managers, and two to four one-hour sessions for hourly employees, depending on the size of your workforce. Additional days can be added for larger organizations. Your managers will learn what the legislation is all about, how to spot the warning signs of organizing activity, what they can and cannot say during a campaign, and how to create the right team culture to keep your business union-free. Your hourly employees will learn the pros and cons of third party representation, so that they're ready to make an informed choice when the time comes.
